In 2025, GW-SHIFT delivered significant regional impact by mobilising investment, accelerating innovation, and strengthening the hydrogen ecosystem across South Wales and the South West. Our success hinges on our hydrogen ecosystem, and we aim to continue to support its growth throughout 2026 and beyond.

Funding

  • £627k in funding across 18 SPRINTs and 4 HyImpact projects

  • £865k in match funding - representing 232% of additional funding

  • £1.6m raised by GW-SHIFT-support business

Business and network development

  • Over 60 jobs were created in 2025, representing a 64% increase from 2024

  • 456 members in the GW-SHIFT network on SETsquared’s Innovation Platform

  • Over 30 individuals trained across Hydrogen Launchpad and Research Impact

  • 75 sponsored PhDs and internships providing entry-level hydrogen opportunities

Knowledge and sector influence

  • Over 10 high-impact journals published, including the GW-SHIFT Hydrogen Economy Report.

  • 2 key policy impacts, including work with the Welsh Government and several hydrogen industry groups.

  • Over 2100 attendees across academic, industry, and civic outreach events and hydrogen webinars.
