How to Build a Winning Grant Application is a practical online course that helps learners develop stronger, competitive funding applications. It is designed for people working across different sectors and funding contexts who want a clearer, more effective approach to bidding. Rather than focusing only on how to write answers, the course shows learners how to think strategically about the whole process, from deciding whether to bid through to shaping a strong final submission.

The course is built around three connected themes. First, it helps learners understand the grant funding landscape, including how funding competitions work, why they are selective, and what funders are really looking for. Second, it introduces a structured approach to developing a strong grant strategy, so learners can build a convincing case based on need, fit, delivery, value, and impact. Third, it offers practical tips to improve the application process, including reviewing effectively, avoiding common mistakes, and using AI safely and appropriately where it adds value.

At the centre of the training is a clear seven-stage framework for building a stronger application. Learners are guided through assessing fundability, defining the problem, shaping the proposition, building a credible delivery plan, strengthening adoption and value arguments, drafting for assessors, and refining the final case. The course is intended to improve judgement as much as writing, helping learners understand not just what to say, but why it matters and how to present it convincingly.

A key message running through the course is that publicly funded innovation needs a believable business case. Even where funding is intended to reduce risk or support earlier-stage development, applicants still need to show who will adopt the innovation, how value will be realised, and why the idea could become viable beyond the grant. By the end of the course, learners will have a practical, repeatable process they can use to approach future funding opportunities with greater confidence, clarity, and discipline.
