Integrating Offshore Renewables, Green Hydrogen and AI for Maritime Energy

The transition towards low-carbon maritime transport is driving increasing interest in the integration of offshore renewable energy, green hydrogen and hydrogen-electric technologies. Offshore renewable energy has significant potential to provide clean electricity and support green hydrogen production, while hydrogen and hydrogen-electric systems can offer flexible, low-carbon energy solutions for marine propulsion, onboard power and other maritime applications.

Realising this potential requires effective integration of renewable generation, hydrogen production, energy storage and maritime energy systems. This integration presents a range of technical challenges, including energy management, system efficiency, operational flexibility, control and reliability. Advances in AI and advanced control systems can help optimise these interconnected systems, improve energy use and enhance the performance of hydrogen-electric maritime applications.
