Enabling safer and more affordable hydrogen storage

Swansea University

Academics: Dr. Mike Dowd, Dr. Barrie Goode

External Partner: Creo International Ltd

This project is developing practical solutions to improve the safety and durability of hydrogen storage tanks.

Working with Creo International Ltd, the project focuses on carbon steel tanks, which can degrade over time when exposed to hydrogen. By developing and testing advanced protective coatings, it aims to extend tank life while maintaining safety and reducing costs.

Through high pressure testing and materials analysis, the project will identify effective solutions to prevent material damage and support long term reliability in hydrogen storage systems.
