Development of testing protocols for critical catalyst materials for green hydrogen production

University of Exeter

Academics: Dr. Zhenyu Zhang, Lecturer, Professor Xiaohong Li, Professor

External Partner: Johnson Matthey

This project will develop simple and effective methods for testing protocols of Hydrogen Evolution Reaction and Oxygen Evolution Reaction catalysts in green hydrogen production with the aim of bridging the focus gap between academia and industry. It will examine the electrochemical performance of different AEM catalyst materials through various electrochemical setups, including both three electrode and full-cell configurations, and devise an optimised electrode fabrication and testing protocol that is relevant to academia and industry. The project outcomes will facilitate the selecting of improved catalyst materials with high activity and good stability for electrolyser systems.
