The saying, “you can’t manage what you don’t measure,” underscores the importance of understanding and documenting the South West hydrogen landscape. This project aims to record on GIS current potential hydrogen demand information in the South West & regions. GIS allows known hydrogen production projects and off takers to be spatially positioned, and volumetrically represented. The strength of GIS lies in the less tangible aspects of the hydrogen opportunity, for which GIS is ideally suited to shed light on. These include the renewable energy generation potential of the region, onshore and offshore wind, solar, and wave. Power generation translates to hydrogen production potential. A real prize for hydrogen and the transition to net zero is the adoption of hydrogen for decarbonisation. Identi cation of regional industries that currently consume hydrogen (Milford Haven Re nery and Port Talbot Steel works) can also be added. This then reveals supply potential with demand potential.
